Italian Cuisine in Historic Wine Country
The DEPOT HOTEL RESTAURANT and GARDEN is located in a charming historic stone building just two blocks from the Sonoma Plaza in the historic wine country town of Sonoma. Built in 1870, the DEPOT HOTEL was originally the local hotel for 19th century passengers arriving on the train from San Francisco. The original owners also opened an Italian restaurant and "saloon" here in 1890 to serve the townspeople of Sonoma and their visitors. When the original DEPOT HOTEL and Restaurant closed, the building became a private home. The building today is a Restaurant with a lovely garden and also a wedding reception site — no hotel rooms, though, since 1922.
The Sonoma kitchen of the DEPOT HOTEL RESTAURANT features Mediterranean-inspired cuisine prepared by acclaimed Chef Antonio Ghilarducci, son of Chef Michael Ghilarducci who founded the restaurant in 1985.
Our guests enjoy dining in the plumstone building or on the decks and terraces surrounding the Italian garden and reflection pool. At the VINOTECA WINE BAR you can try our house-made Italian "small plates." These delicious antipasti consist of salads, cheeses, and other vegetables dishes--as well as our own house-made cured meats, sliced to order on our bright red Italian "high-performance" slicing machine. They are great with a glass of wine, prosecco, or aperitif. The VINOTECA is open in the afternoons when you can enjoy a casual snack at the bar, at a fireside table, or in the Garden--as well as on into the evening. There is also an outstanding selection of Sonoma
